Skylar Pulliam (30), a US national, is pursuing a BSc in occupational therapy at Trinity Washington University. She is committed to helping people overcome personal and situational challenges and lead productive and satisfying lives.
Skylar is resilient, ambitious, and forward-looking. She originally enrolled in community college but put her dream of a college degree on hold because of pressing financial and family obligations. Nevertheless, she remained consistent in her commitment to serve the local community. She volunteered at a local non-profit that provides free food for vulnerable people in her community. This experience intensified her desire to work with marginalized groups to both empower and uplift them. Skylar cobbled together the financial resources to enroll in Trinity’s occupational therapy assistant program to help her achieve her goals.
Skylar is a full-time student with an exceptional grade point average, while holding down two jobs in the hospitality sector. Her academic program includes two full-time fieldwork internships at local organizations which will help refine her career path. She seeks to gain broad practical experience across the occupational therapy field and to practice in the Washington, DC area. In the longer term, she intends to prioritize working with women and children and to open her own practice working with a collective of practitioners.
Skylar has already begun to create a professional network. She looks forward to working with past MMEG recipients to help her achieve her professional goals and to becoming a mentor to other MMEG recipients.
Skylar Pulliam's grant is sponsored by BankFund Credit Union.
