Alejandra Arnaiz es una mujer Peruana de 51 años que se define como perseverante, proactiva y empática; actualmente está realizando una Maestría en Lingüística en la Universidad Católica de Perú.
Alexandra ha estudiado la Lengua de Señas Peruana (LSP) y se encuentra trabajando como traductora de la LSP y realizando un voluntariado en NISOR, la Asociación para Niños Sordos de las Américas, enseñando español como segunda lengua. Alexandra cree que un acceso temprano de los niños con discapacidad auditiva a la LSP y a una educación bilingüe, les ayudará a tener un buen nivel de español escrito y leído con el que podrán acceder a la enseñanza preuniversitaria.
La Maestría de Alexandra se centra en estudiar y poner en valor la gramática de la LSP para así elaborar una versión más comprensible para niños con discapacidad auditiva, así como para desarrollar una metodología para que estos niños aprendan a escribir y leer en español como una segunda lengua.
Alexandra ha luchado infatigablemente en Perú por el reconocimiento de los derechos de los niños con discapacidad auditiva y poco a poco ha conseguido tener impacto y ayudar a una población tan necesitada como ésta.
Alexandra is a 51 year old Peruvian woman completing a Masters of Linguistics at the Catholic University of Peru; she describes herself as perseverant, empathetic and proactive.
She has studied the Peruvian Sign Language (PSL) and is currently working as a PSL interpreter as well as volunteering at NISOR, the Association for Deaf Children in the Americas, teaching Spanish as a second language. Alexandra believes when hearing impaired children have an early access to both PSL and a bilingual education, this will improve their level of Spanish reading and writing, thereby providing them with opportunities to access higher learning.
Her Masters is focused on researching and enhancing the PSL grammar in order to develop a more comprehensive version for the benefit of hearing impaired children; as well as to develop a methodology for these children to learn to read and write Spanish as a second language.
Alexandra has been fighting tirelessly for the recognition of the rights of hearing impaired children in Peru and has managed to make an impact and help a population with so much need.
